Root zone oxygen levels directly influence how efficiently roots can take up water and nutrients. In a soil- or compost-based growing medium, oxygen availability can become limited, particularly as the medium becomes denser or compacts over time. The AirDome addresses this by delivering a continuous supply of air directly to the base of the pot, keeping the root zone oxygenated throughout the growing cycle. The dome is placed at the bottom of the pot before filling, covered with growing medium, and connected to an air pump via a standard air line.

The increase in dissolved oxygen availability has a measurable impact on root development and plant productivity. AutoPot's own trials with Luffa plants recorded a 130% increase in yield; for common fruiting plant varieties, yield increases of up to 30% have been reported. To maximise effectiveness, use a well-aerated growing mix such as 50% quality compost and 50% perlite. Avoid peat-based composts as compaction reduces the AirDome's effectiveness. Use only warm air; never direct cold air into the root zone. For larger multi-pot systems, use a higher-output pump capable of running 16mm supply pipe, reducing to 6mm at each AirDome connection.
