Persimilis, scientifically known as Phytoseiulus persimilis, is a highly specialised and aggressive predatory mite used explicitly for the biological control of two-spotted spider mites, one of the most destructive pests in greenhouse, indoor, and field crops. Renowned for its rapid hunting ability and high consumption rates, Persimilis can dramatically reduce spider mite populations within days of release.

This mite thrives in warm environments, with optimal activity between 20–30°C and moderate to high humidity, making it a perfect ally for controlled environment agriculture and protected cropping systems. Persimilis actively searches for spider mite eggs, larvae, and adults, significantly interrupting their reproductive cycle and protecting plants from damage caused by feeding and webbing.

Unlike chemical miticides, Persimilis does not develop resistance, making it an essential component of integrated pest management (IPM) programs. Its predatory behaviour complements other beneficial insects and biological controls, allowing for a sustainable, chemical-free approach to spider mite control.

Persimilis performs best at temperatures of 20–30°C, with relative humidity above 60 per cent.

Requires active spider mite populations for establishment.

The life cycle is short, approximately one week under ideal conditions.

Can consume up to 20 spider mite eggs or larvae per day per mite.

Application rate:

For curative control, apply 10–20 mites per m² directly to affected areas.

For preventative use, 5–10 mites per m² is recommended. Release early and repeatedly in cases of heavy infestations to maintain effective

control.
