Montdorensis, scientifically Amblyseius montdorensis, is a versatile predatory mite highly effective against thrips, especially western flower thrips, in greenhouse and protected cropping systems. This species excels in suppressing thrips populations by preying on larvae and eggs, reducing plant damage and limiting pest reproduction cycles.


Montdorensis thrives in a range of environments, particularly where humidity is moderate to high and temperatures are between 15 and 28°C. It complements other natural enemies and biological controls, fitting seamlessly into integrated pest management (IPM) programs.


Unlike some thrips predators, Montdorensis tolerates a broader range of conditions and can establish itself effectively on multiple plant types, including ornamentals, vegetables, and fruit crops. It also feeds on pollen and alternative prey, supporting persistence during low thrips pressure.

Optimal activity occurs between 15 and 28°C.

Thrives in moderate to high humidity.

Feeds on thrips eggs and larvae as well as pollen and other small arthropods. 

Reproduces quickly, supporting rapid population growth for sustained pest suppression.


Application rate:

Recommended release rates are 5 to 10 mites per square meter, applied preventatively or curatively. Repeat applications every 1–2 weeks as needed, depending on pest pressure and monitoring results.
