Hypoaspis
Target pest: Fungus gnat larvae and soil-dwelling pests
Hypoaspis, also known as Stratiolaelaps scimitus, is a highly effective, soil-dwelling predatory mite used for biological control of fungus gnat larvae, shore flies, and other soil pests in hydroponic and horticultural systems. These robust mites establish themselves in the top layer of growing media, where they actively hunt pest larvae and help restore balance to your root zone ecosystem.
Unlike chemical drenches, Hypoaspis offers a natural, residue-free solution that won’t disrupt beneficial microbes or plant development. Ideal for use in propagation houses, greenhouses, indoor grows, and any system where organic and integrated pest management (IPM) protocols are in play.
Once applied, Hypoaspis mites begin searching for prey in the top 1–2 cm of soil or substrate, feeding primarily on fungus gnat larvae but also consuming thrips pupae and springtails if available. They’re best introduced early in the crop cycle as a preventative or used curatively in response to confirmed pest pressure.
Key technical details:
